We would love to have you join our chapter!
When you join the DAR, you enter a network of over 190,000 women who form lifelong bonds, honor their revolutionary ancestors, and promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism in their communities. Our work also provides wonderful opportunities for individual members to build their own skills through participating in projects, taking part in training opportunities, and assuming leadership positions.
We have answers to your questions about the application process and becoming a member of this historic and vibrant organization. Any woman 18 years or older – regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background – who can prove lineal descent from a Patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.
Complete our Contact Us form to be put in touch with our chapter registrar, who can help you navigate the application process to join our chapter. You don’t have to do it alone!
What kind of time commitment is required if I join?
Members are not expected to commit any set amount of time to DAR. Some members enjoy serving long-term on specific projects such as leading a historic preservation effort or serving as a committee chair. Others may prefer pitching in on single events – for example, signing up for a single morning cleaning monuments – without long-term commitment. It is up to you to decide how you want to get involved.
Most of our members work full time, many are raising families, and they still find time to be involved with the DAR. We also realize that competing priorities may limit a member’s involvement for periods of time. We encourage our members to stay connected to our chapter during these times and come back as time allows, and of course always enjoy the friendships made along the way.
If I think I have an ancestor who served in the Revolutionary War, how would I begin to verify that?
